Amy Winehouse on Apple Music
Top Ten hit \”Rehab,\” the lead single for her second, critically acclaimed album, Back to Black. The fanfare over the release was so great that it started to spill over onto U. The LP charted higher than any other American debut by a British female recording artist before it, and it remained in the Top Ten for several months, selling a million copies by the end of that summer.
Just as in the U. Not long afterward, though, Winehouse canceled her North American tour. Early reports revealed that she was entering rehab for addiction, but her new management denied the claims, stating it was due to severe exhaustion. Her erratic behavior kept her and her new husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, in the tabloids constantly, on and off stages on both sides of the Atlantic, but in late , American fans were finally given a chance to hear Winehouse\’s early work, with a slightly abbreviated two songs removed and one added version of Frank.
Unfortunately, the next four years were filled with drama, disappointment, and very little music. Public performances turned into incoherent disasters, the worst of them posted to video-sharing sites for all to see.
A track on the Quincy Jones tribute Q: Soul Bossa Nostra appeared in , while a duet with Tony Bennett was announced in early , but a planned follow-up to Back to Black would never make it past the demo stage.
Winehouse was found dead in her Camden, London apartment on July 23, The coroner\’s report, delivered three months later, revealed that her blood alcohol content had reached a potentially fatal level. Nearly two months after her death, Winehouse\’s first posthumous appearance was released on Tony Bennett\’s Duets II, where she sang with him on \”Body and Soul. In the summer of , Amy, a documentary by director Asif Kapadia, told her story through photographs, archival footage in the studio and out , and music.
Much of this material had not been available previously. It also contained interviews with friends, family, musical collaborators, and the late singer. That October, a soundtrack was issued that alternated previously released and unreleased Winehouse material with pieces from the film\’s score.
In , another posthumous collection was released as a Record Store Day vinyl exclusive. Amy Winehouse. The seller delivered way before the estimated delivery date. Great service. Although the frequency of Amy\’s onstage drinking is unsettling to watch and would be even if she were still here , the performance itself is critical and undeniable evidence of her original vocal abilities. Even when inebriated near the end, her vocals were spot on, and her memory intact enough to carry on where most people wouldn\’t remember their own home address – even with their ID in their hand. Amy did that with her voice, her ability to connect to her audience, her sharp sense of songwriting and, maybe most dangerously, her willingness to share what must have been raw and painful events set to music.
Most of us can forget or re-write those times, and thus be saved by our own mediocrity. She apparently didn\’t give herself that bit of grace, and even selected songs from other writers sharing hopelessness along those same poetic lines. Singing these stories night after night was no cathartic exercise; it was pain on display the way people will slow down to view victims of a car accident.
The differences were the originality of her voice and the honesty of her words. Nonetheless, this disc also gives a clue about how powerful Amy would\’ve become had she granted herself the perspective of a survivor believing in love, with a heart made all the more precious for the battered scars sustained in growth.
There will be other singers, but her brief time here will be remembered. Thanks for the legacy, Miss Amy. Arrived safley. Stunning performance. Recently became an Amy Winehouse fan. Did not listen to her music when she was alive, how sad. The cinematography and audio on this dvd are top notch. Watch this dvd repeatedly, on a 65\” Samsung 4k, 7.
Yep, im an audiophile. I can attest that the engineers who mastered this dvd, know their business. Top quality, \’just like being there\’. Brings a tear to my eye, that there will be no new performances from her.
Such a talent, so unique. Absolutely breaks my heart, she left us far too soon. Thankfully, there is this dvd to help convey her uniqueness, and talent to countless multitudes of adoring fans. Worth every penny. Worth double the cost. Her reputation got my attention before I even knew of her music. One day I just got tired of hearing what a \”bad\” \”girl\” she was and set out to find out did she have talent to go with the bad rep. I was impressed. I love her style.
She reminds me of a cross between Macy Gray, and Sade. She has that different vocal style like Macy\’s, and her onstage performance reminds me of Sade, though she has a while to go before I would consider her to be \”up there\” with Sade.
And I must say, I\’ve never seen a performer wet their throat as often as she did in this performance, but even so, I loved this concert and her version of \”Love is Loosing Game\” is the best that I\’ve heard on her other recordings. I bought the single with the different versions of that particular song, but the one from this concert was not on it and I was disappointed. I really enjoyed the entire performance and I\’ve watched and listened to it many times. I loved her band.
Each musician is highly talented. Watching each of them was as pleasurable as watching Amy Winehouse. If she can manage not to be derailed by alcohol and drugs, I look forward to hearing more from her.
I fell in love with Amy at the Mandela concert in June Had only heard she won several Emmys, never seen her, was unaware of a single title. But she blew me away with her sheer presence. She is a great singer. The range of music in her live concert is simply fabulous. The band behind her is equally fabulous and that is her musician recommendation. My recommendation is that I have watched her concert every night for the last 4 nights and I have only owned the DVD that long.
I haven\’t seen the DVD to the end. Oh my and she likes Thelonious Monk – so do I. But I am caught up in the fears surrounding her well being – if there were anything I could do to help her I surely would – she is such a plus to our world. Would love to meet her – she exudes. Bought it as a gift for my man, awesome artist!
Amy had such brilliant talent with the most unique voice I ever heard. I truly cherish this DVD, the live music she produced with her brand is breathtaking. You will find yourself totally drawn into watching her performance, smiling as you wish you would have had a chance to be live in the audience. It is a delight to see her interact with the crowd, it is so clear to see how she was at home on stage , but deep down inside she was such a humble, sweet, kind spirit.
I loved the DVD with the live version of her songs so much I finally found them for download on my MP3, since her death it is a constant playlist in my car. Highly recommend this DVD to anyone who appreciates Amys talent. Her kind of talent only comes around once in a lifetime. RIP beautiful lady! Thank you for your honest music and having been there when I needed a smile in my heart! See all reviews.
Top reviews from other countries. As for the quality of the DVD itself on screen was like a dodgy pirate you would buy for a pound at the market.
